The village of Woods Hole is a place rooted in science, so it should come as no surprise that our community has jumped into action to meet the challenges of a viral pandemic. Mid-March when Governor Baker closed all non-essential businesses, much of the village shut down including the laboratories like Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Marine Biological Laboratory and others. Traffic to the Steamship Authority ferry terminal slowed, along with bus service from Boston on the Peter Pan bus. The streets of Woods Hole fell silent.
As of early May, the curve seems to be flattening in Massachusetts and the following businesses are open, some with limited hours: Woods Hole Market, Old Barn Package Store, Pie in the Sky Bakery Cafe, Landfall Restaurant, Water Street Kitchen, Quicks Hole Tavern (May 14), Quicks Hole Taqueria (May 21), Captain Kidd (May 13). All restaurants are on order to remain take-out only until May 18th. All have announced new safety procedures.
Woods Hole Inn is closed to all but emergency workers or travel emergencies. Sands of TIme is closed, opening expected for summer. Treehouse Lodge expects to open late May.
Most Woods Hole shops are also expected to open mid to late May.
