July 24 – August 2, 2015
Internationally recognized artist, Keith Rendall will be showing select works in an exhibition, “Below theSurface” at the Zephyr Education Foundation July 24 – August 2, 2015. Rendall, a master printmaker is known for his unique, large- scale woodcuts and exquisite etchings. His life long experiences in Maine have taken him from the mountains and lakes of the Rangeley area to the islands and rocky coast, inspiring his images of landscapes, birds and marine life through direct experience. “Images conceived and realized in intaglio and relief can be graced with truth,” says Rendall, whose work explores the elements and nature in unusual but moving form.
With marine wildlife as a reoccurring motif, Rendallʼs work offers a mysterious entry point into the ancient rhythms of humanity and nature. Renderedin stark relief with generous contrasts of light and dark, his semi-narrative works offer a point of view and a point of departure. For months he works to carve each block and prints each image by hand in the traditional way using only the finest japanese paper and a rice paddle. Rendall works in very limited editions, perhaps just 2 or 3, and each will differ from the other using the power of the line and variations of color creating a unique image each time.
Rendallʼs work can be seen at Zephyr Education Foundation, 97 Water Street, Woods Hole, MA from 11-6 daily, July 24-August 2, 2015.
