Woods Hole Oceanographic Exhibit Center

A trip to Woods Hole affords you a visit to the incredible discoveries of the world-famous research institution called the Woods Hole Oceanographic (WHOI). In the midst of the many scientific research buildings in Woods Hole sits the Ocean Science Exhibit Center and Gift Shop. The exhibit center informs visitors on WHOI’s research and inventions and includes a gift shop with WHOI merchandise. Handworks

Nestled between the Woods Hole drawbridge and community center sits one of Woods Hole’s fine art shops – Handworks. If the location wasn’t already great enough, Handwork’s art is truly one-of-a-kind. The array of art at Handworks includes: jewelry, pottery, paintings, photography, soaps, clothing, woodworking, ceramics, and prints. Handworks operates as a co-operative business, currently made up of fourteen local artists. The artist’s come from all over the Cape and South Coast not only sell their art, but to work at the shop. Under the Sun

Growing up near Woods Hole, I’ve shopped at Under the Sun many times, hunting through the cool collection of earrings or admiring the hand-made lamp shades and other local crafts.  But it wasn’t until I met owner Joyce Stratton and her partner Peggy Cunningham that I realized all the history I was missing about this lovely little shop in the middle of the village.
