Woods Hole Oceanographic Exhibit Center

A trip to Woods Hole affords you a visit to the incredible discoveries of the world-famous research institution called the Woods Hole Oceanographic (WHOI). In the midst of the many scientific research buildings in Woods Hole sits the Ocean Science Exhibit Center and Gift Shop. The exhibit center informs visitors on WHOI’s research and inventions and includes a gift shop with WHOI merchandise. Pierce Exhibit Center and Gift Shop

On July 4th, the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) reopened the Pierce Exhibit Center and Gift Shop. The exhibit center was newly renovated this year to better express the enormous impact MBL has had in the scientific community. The exhibit center includes live animal tanks with creatures that MBL scientists are currently working with to better understand human health. In addition to the live animals, there is an interactive laboratory with hands-on microscopes, squid models, and amazing underwater video footage. Woods Hole’s Pirate Bar

Built in 1849,  the Captain Kidd is Woods Hole’s favorite pirate bar. With marble counter tops and furnishings from old ships, dining at the Captain Kidd really takes you back to Woods Hole’s original pirate days. Yes, it’s true.  Woods Hole was once the hangout of pirates, including the famous Captain Kidd who was rumored to use nearby Tarpaulin and Kettle Coves as a hideout from which to spring upon merchant ships. What is a Heart? Featuring the Persuasions

One of the hottest performances of the Woods Hole Film Festival 2012 was definitely the documentary film, “What is a Heart?” featuring a performance from the singing group the Persuasions. The presentation took place at the Lillie Auditorium on the first of August and was a hit among viewers. The film, “What is a Heart?” is a documentary about Christopher Janney’s performance art piece entitled HeartBeat. The film follows Janney as he creates and explores his art.
