September 15 to October 13, 2013
Each year the Woods Hole Business Association sponsors the Calcutta Fishing Derby. “The goal” says Don Este, “is to get out on the water and have a good time.” Don is co-owner of the Landfall Restaurant which is where the weigh station is located.
The derby begins at 12:01 AM, Sunday September 15, 2013 and ends, Sunday, October 15, 2013 at midnight. The weigh station times are between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM each day. All fish must be weighed in within 15 hours from the time of being caught. At the time of weigh-in the fisherman must present his/her badge and provide the weigh-master all required information.
There will be two divisions, striped bass and bluefish. The entry fee is $50.00, however, children under 12 are free.
Landfall will host an awards party on Monday, October, 14th at 6:00 PM. Daily prizes will be given out for the biggest catch of the day and the grand prize will be awarded on the last day. The minimum length for an entry is twenty-eight inches.

You will not be elegible for the grand prize but for each bluefish or striped bass, the fisherman will receive a Landfall prize. It could be a drink or a cup of soup or a Landfall tee-shirt. Each fisherman can weigh as many fish as he likes and there is no charge. In addition the fisherman will receive a raffle ticket for a framed print of an oil painting by local artist Julia O’Malley-Keyes. The print is now on display over the fireplace at Landfall. The raffle drawing will be at the awards party on Monday, October,14th. at 6:00 PM.
One requirement is that you can only participate in one of the fishing derbies, either the Calcutta Derby or the Free Fishing Derby.
A first prize will be awarded each day for each division (bluefish and striped bass).
At the awards party the money from the entry fees will be split in half, with 50% going to the fisherman who caught the largest striped bass and 50% going to the one who caught the largest bluefish.
So go on out on those beautiful Cape Cod waters and have fun.
